Staff Attend First Training of New Capacity Building Programme

EpiscoCare recently held the first workshop of its new capacity development programme, a project developed with Embrace the Middle East, one of EpiscoCare’s international partners. The project called “Building the Capacity of EpiscoCare Staff” spans the period from September 2015 to February 2016. Its goal is to increase the knowledge and skills of EpiscoCare and diocese staff in order to improve the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of EpiscoCare’s programmes.

EpiscoCare and Embrace held the first workshop of the programme from September 15 to 17 on the topic of “Strategic Management of Development Work.” The main concepts covered throughout the three-day workshop were strategic management, civil society, human rights, rights-based development, community participation, community empowerment, and results-based management. Not only did the workshop involve lectures, but it also included many opportunities for staff to practice applying the knowledge to their work through small group activities, discussions, and presentations.

The training workshop provided background knowledge about community development work in addition to presenting practical knowledge applied to the situation of Egypt and the communities in which our staff work. For example, participants not only learned about the historical development of human rights concepts and agreements, but they also learned how to apply these concepts for the benefit of the communities in which they work.

Overall, the training provided needed support to EpiscoCare staff, equipping participants with many frameworks that will boost staff creativity and effectiveness in the design and implementation of projects in our target communities.
